Formed in 1973, Rocky Mountain Outdoor Writers and Photographers, Inc., is a regional organization of professional and aspiring communicators, dedicated to sharing the outdoor experience. Through writing, photography, broadcast media, and artistic expression, members provide information about the recreational and natural resources found in the Rocky Mountain West.
OUR PURPOSE
We're an association of professionals and avid amateurs, published and not yet published. We are writers, photographers, artists, cinematographers, radio and TV producers, videographers, editors and publishers, and other outdoor enthusiasts, all with an abiding interest in nature and a goal of improving our craft. We spread the news about the magnificent Rocky Mountain scene through words and images, while stressing the need for stewardship and enhancement of the natural environment as well as enjoyment of the outdoor experience.
OUR ACTIVITIES
RMOWP Conference
Each year, we hold an annual conference at a different location within the Rocky Mountain Region. It's an opportunity to meet new members and make new contacts, share experiences, enjoy local events and activities, learn from a variety of seminars and experts, and get new ideas and inspiration.
Our Very Popular Photography Workshop
We also offer an excellent photo workshop at least once a year at Rocky Mountain National Park just outside Estes Park, Colorado. The instructors are experienced professionals in the industry with extensive knowledge of the park—where to find wildlife, grand displays of wildflowers, and incredible scenics. First held in Carlsbad, New Mexico in October 1994, subsequent workshops have taken place in June at Rocky Mountain National Park. Although open to those with either film or digital cameras with manual adjustment, in recent years digital use has increased to where virtually all attendees are shooting digital.
